Each school or department benefits from donor funding by helping to provide unique learning opportunities for students, up-to-date equipment, renovations to educational spaces, and more. The Melvin D. and Valorie G. Booth School of Business Challenge
The first 40 donors to make a gift of $25 or more to the Melvin D. and Valorie G. Booth School of Business will unlock a $2,000 gift from Gina Gruhn ’93 and her husband, Randy Hurley. Gina and Randy are wonderful supporters of the Bearcat community and Gina is a current member of the Northwest Foundation Board of Directors.

Jamie & Gary Hooyman Winner Takes All Challenge
The Academic school with the most donors to their Student Profession-Based Learning Fund, benefiting student hands-on learning opportunities, will receive a $1,000 gift from Dr. Jamie Hooyman, retired Provost of Northwest Missouri State University, and Gary ('20) Hooyman.

Mark Jelavich Language, Literature and Writing Challenge
The first 15 gifts made to benefit the School of Language, Literature and Writing will unlock a $1,000 gift from Dr. Mark Jelavich, in memory of his wife Janet, in honor of her career teaching high school English, speech and debate. After retiring from full-time teaching, Janet worked as a consultant for Missouri Western’s Prairie Lands Writing Project that assisted rural schools in improving their English instruction. Mark, a retired Northwest faculty member, dedicated 31 years of his career as a professor of Economics at Northwest Missouri State University.

Dean Rod Barr's College of Agricultural and Natural Sciences Challenge
Dean Dr. Rod Barr '87, '95, '09 of the College of Agricultural and Natural Sciences is issuing a challenge to each of the schools under his leadership. The school that secures the most gifts of $25 or more will receive an additional gift to support their school.

Ted and Kate Place Opening Sprint Challenge
The area with the most donors between 9 a.m. and 10 a.m. on Tuesday, April 7, will receive an additional gift of $500 from Ted '99 and Kate '99, '00, '08 Place. Ted currently serves as the President of the Northwest Foundation Board of Directors. Ted and Kate's families have cheered at Bearcat games, walked the same sidewalks, and built lasting friendships rooted in Northwest and they hope this gift inspires others to start strong for the university that shaped their story.
